Here are some tips for making your next event one to remember:
1) Keep it simple – At the grocery store or farmer’s market, try to find products that are made from simple ingredients that are locally sourced. This helps to ensure the freshest produce and ingredients are used, which leads to delicious results when cooking. Shopping locally also means supporting local businesses and being mindful of the environment.
2) Stick with seasonal and local ingredients if you can. Try to focus on what’s in season where you live and use those ingredients as much as possible. When hosting a gathering of family or friends, I believe it’s important to use ingredients that are both seasonal and local. Not only will this ensure that the meal you provide is of the highest quality and most flavorful, but it’s also a great way to support the local economy. Shopping for seasonal ingredients also has the benefit of providing variety to your gathering; from spring vegetables like asparagus to summer stone fruits, from autumn squashes to winter citrus.
3) When you’re setting the table for your gathering, don’t worry about making everything match. Instead, keep it simple and clean. There’s no need to have everything match – just make it feel organic! Fill the table with fresh blooms or simple greens from your backyard and add a few fresh linens.
